Back to work!

Well summer flew by and now it's time to get back to work! I have 8 boys and 2 girls this year. We are learning our procedures and getting our routine down. Basically we have chaos! I am not sure that I will enjoy having my darling daughter in my class this year. She seems to expect me to "obey" her every command. Suffice to say, we have already made it "out into the hall"! With Labor Day coming up, I am looking forward to a three day weekend. We might possibly head to the Royal Gorge in Colorado. I think that the view would be wonderful but the drive might be more than my husband can take. Did I mention we have a 16 year old foreign exchange student? A girl from Korea. We are enjoying getting to know her and learning more about Korea. Well back to work....

Summer Fun

Ok I am officially "out of school" but....I am taking an online graduate course which is taking up alot of my free time! I am also trying to keep my house clean, my family fed and in clean clothes, and now, of all things, they want to go on vacation! Guess I'll have to fit it in somehow....the kids are growing up so quickly and soon will be too big to want to hang out with the parents!!

Spring is Here!

Yeah...Spring! Time for all the end-of-year trips, tests, track meets, ceremonies, etc....Time when you think of all the things you wished you had taught, discussed, or done and promise yourself that you'll do better next year!! But probably won't....you will probably forget by the end of summer!!! Since I have my students for 2 years in a row, I am already wondering if I can change the behavior of some next year .....ahhahahh will I ever learn?

I know you listen But do you HEAR?

How many times have we listened to people talk and, when they were finished, didn't know anything they said? This seems to run rampant in my classroom. Today, a sweet girl asked, "Are we doing ABC order?". I replied "No do page so and so." Later I realized that the page was where we did ABC order every week....was I listening? NO. Today I handed out beautiful new folders, purchased by "MOI", to be used in Science. I specifically said, "DO NOT write on the cover of your folder!" So what happened 15 minutes later? A young man is busily drawing all over the folder. Was he listening? NO.
So now I wonder....how many times am I listening to people but never hear a word they say?
